Serving guide

I’ve included a table below as a rough guide to the number of portions you can get from each cake.  Keep in mind that final number of serves will depend on who is cutting your cake.  A professional caterer can generally get more slices out of a cake.

Round Dessert serve Coffee Serve Square Dessert serve Coffee serve
6” 11 22 6” 14 27
7” 15 30 7” 20 40
8” 20 40 8” 27 54
9” 27 54 9” 35 70
10” 34 68 10” 45 90
11” 43 86 11” 56 112
12” 50 100 12” 67 134

A dessert serve is roughly 2″ x 1″ x height of the cake (approx. 4-5″).  A coffee serve is half a dessert serve at 1″ x 1″ x height of the cake (approx. 4-5″).  CakeServingSizeGuide

Corners and edges of cakes are not generally served due to too much icing and not enough cake.  Additional factors may also affect the number of serves e.g. the number of supports required to be inserted into the cake (for tiered cakes) will reduce the number of serves.

Some cakes (mainly tiered cakes) may require a certain size to maintain the “look” of the design and the integrity of the structure.  This will be discussed during the quote process.
